6 Steps to Achieving a Successful Active Pregnancy

As I enter the last week of my pregnancy I have been able to reflect on where I started to where I am now, and that my expectation of pregnancy was wildly different to my reality. Coming from a very fit lifestyle, I knew that a lot of what I did would need to be adjusted as I progressed through my pregnancy but I thought I had the knowledge and dedication to not find it a problem. The reality is that pregnancy is not predicable and most certainly not the same of any woman. So

    The Great Whitehaven Beach Run

Picture a remote untouched beach with over 7kms of pure white silica sand and water that is a thousand different shades of incredible iridescent blues. This is paradise. This is the location for the Great Whitehaven Run. Every year Hamilton island hosts the Great Whitehaven Run as part of the Endurance Series. Not familiar with this location or event? Well, let me give you the quick facts! It's Australia’s most awarded beach located on Whitsunday island, the largest island of

From kiddy pool to 1km ocean swim

If the idea of swimming a 1km ocean swim sounds completely impossible to you, well I am here to tell you that you could, if you wanted to. Regardless of if you don't think you could swim that far, find the ocean scary, don't have much swimming experience, or even have no swimming experience, you can get confident in the water, so much so that you could complete an ocean swim. You are never too old to try something new or get outside of your comfort zone. Here is my story on h

5 Coastal walks around Sydney that will get you moving

So often training hard at your gym is a weekday thing, before or after work. When it gets to the weekend I find it very hard to want to go inside, back to the gym, this is why I always opt for doing something outdoors. Not only does it get me moving, but feels like I have had a proper weekend! So here are 5 coastal walks from the north of Sydney all the way to the south. If you live in Sydney, add these to your list to go and do. If you don't live in Syd, add them to your wis

Challenge your limits: How I discovered I can do so much more than I ever thought...and how you can

A year ago a friend of mine told me she was going to do a triathlon, I was so inspired by her ability to give it a go, something so tough and different from what she had ever done before. I had always put something like a triathlon into a box of 'I will never do that'. Mainly because I thought that I couldn't. I am naturally terrible at everything long distance so I just never thought I could do it and therefore never wanted to do it. I had a realization that if my friend bel

VS Sport: The best all-rounder sports bra

I have many different sports bras all for different types of workouts and a lot of them are quite good, but ranking highest across all areas are my all-time favourite sports bras from Victoria Secret Sport. Here is the low down of how well they rank across all the areas I look for in a sports bra. Fit Sizing options are the same as bras, so you can get any cup size with any width, which is pretty unheard of with most other sports bras. No more ill-fitting sports bra pro

Why and how to get bendy

Flexibility isn't something that I naturally have. I practiced ballet, modern, jazz, tap and break dancing for over 10 years and still was never able to do the splits! After stopping dancing I resigned to the fact that I will never be able to be flexible. That was until I got heavily into yoga and became determined to progress my poses that were restricted by my lack of flexibility. I tried to push my muscles into stretching but I had little success with my progress! Last yea

Keep your fitness on track when traveling without compromising your holiday

So you started to get your fitness and health on track and feeling good about your routine, but now you have a holiday booked and worried that it will all come undone. We have all heard of people loosing their fitness and packing on a couple of kilos after a holiday, so how do you avoid this while still having a fun holiday? After all using a hotel gym is just beyond depressing! You didn't travel all that way to waste time and experiences indoors working out by yourself! Here

    Learn to love rolling

If you are active in any way, you should be rolling out your muscles. The first time I tired it, it was like hell! So I stopped and didn't do it again for so many years! When I begin to get into skipping and long distance running earlier this year I ended up really hurting my knees. To the point were I couldn't get up and down my stairs at work! I went to a physio and found out that my ITB and quads were tight. The ITB runs over two joints, it starts above your hip runs all t

How working out stopped me coming home tired

For so many years I struggled to stick to regular exercise because I would be sitting at my desk at work ready to leave for the gym and think things like...'there is no way I can exercise now I am so tired', 'I have had such a big day I need to just go home tonight, I will go tomorrow instead'. I would visualise how hard the class would be, all the sweating and exhaustion and it would always put me off going to my workout. However I would somehow end up going home feeling go

Trying Maqui - The king of Antioxidants

If you haven't heard of Maqi before, it is a berry that grows in Patagonia and has been given the highest rating of antioxidants to be naturally found in any food. To understand how much this is, it has been reported to have 4 times the amount of antioxidants than Acai and Goji berries and up to 10 times the amount of pomegranate! A couple of months ago I came cross Maqui in my local health food store, I had never heard of it before and decided to give it a go, in terms of ta
